The mistake is trying to do it all at once. You end up exhausted, over budget, and surrounded by boxes of things you do not need yet. Here is a calmer way, spread over a week.

Day one: sleep and wash

A way to sleep, two towels, a shower curtain, and trash bags. That is the whole first day. Do not add to it.

Day two or three: one hot meal

A pan, a pot, a knife, and something to eat off of. Cook one real meal in your own place. It does more for morale than you would expect.

Day four or five: one lamp

Get a light that is not the ceiling. Suddenly the place reads as somewhere a person lives.

The rest of the week: one corner

Pick one corner and make it yours - somewhere to sit, a rug, something on the wall you chose. Leave the rest of the apartment empty. It will wait.

By the end of the week you have a place that works, and you have not spent money on things you do not use. That order is exactly how our kits are built - start with The First Night and add from there.
